WATER ACCOUNTS PAYABLE ON A STAGGERED+ BASIS

MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE REMINDED THAT WATER ACCOUNTS ARE ISSUED AND PAYABLE EVERY FOUR MONTHS. THE BUSINESS MANAGER OF THE WATER SUPPLIES DEPARTMENT, MR CHAN SÍU-LEUNG, SAID TODAY (THURSDAY).
+THE DEPARTMENT ISSUES WATER ACCOUNTS TO REGISTERED CONSUMERS THREE TIMES A YEAR ON A STAGGERED+ BASIS ACCORDING TO DISTRICTS: CONSUMERS OF ONE DISTRICT ARE ISSUED ACCOUNTS IN JANUARY, MAY AND SEPTEMBER WHILE CONSUMERS OF ANOTHER DISTRICT RECEIVE ACCOUNTS IN FEBRUARY, JUNE AND OCTOBER.
+CONSUMERS SHOULD PAY THEIR ACCOUNTS ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATES TO AVOID SURCHARGES OR DISCONNECTION OF THEIR SUPPLIES. THE PAYMENT DUE DATE IS SPECIFIED IN THE WATER ACCOUNT AND THIS IS NORMALLY ONE MONTH AFTER THE DATE OF ISSUE,+ SAID MR CHAN.
CONSUMERS, HE SAID, SHOULD CONTACT THE DEPARTMENT'S CONSUMER ENQUIRY CENTRE IF THEY DID NOT RECEIVE THEIR ACCOUNTS AFTER FOUR MONTHS.
THE CENTRE WILL ISSUE DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS ON REQUEST.
MR CHAN SAID THE MAIN REASONS FOR NON-DELIVERY OF WATER ACCOUNTS WERE THE CONSUMERS' FAILURE TO CHANGE THEIR CONSUMERSHIP OR TO GIVE NEW MAILING ADDRESSES.
CONSUMERS CHANGING PREMISES SHOULD PROMPTLY NOTIFY THE DEPARTMENT TO CANCEL OR TAKE OVER CONSUMERSHIP, THUS ENABLING THE BILLING RECORDS TO BE UP-DATED.
ME CHAN SAID THAT SHOULD CONSUMERS FAIL TO PAY AFTER THE DUE DATE, THE DEPARTMENT WOULD ISSUE A REMINDER AND NOTICE OF DISCONNECTION WITH A FIVE PER CENT SURCHARGE. SHOULD THE CHARGES STILL BE OUTSTANDING, THE WATER SUPPLY WOULD BE DISCONNECTED.
THE DEPARTMENT WILL RECONNECT THE WATER SUPPLY AFTER ALL OUTSTANDING CHARGES, INCLUDING THE SURCHARGE, AND A RECONNECTION FEE OF $30 HAVE BEEN PAID.
