ORE (Officer Order of the British Empire)
Dr. Edward Hamilton PATERSON, JP
Dr. Paterson has served continuously in Hong Kong since 1951
at first through the London Missionary Society, and later as a worker
supported by the Council for World Mission in which the Hong Kong Synod
of the Church of Christ in China is fully participating.
His work was at first with the Nethersole Hospital, of which
he became Medical Superintendent, and he then developed the major project
at Kwun Tong to create a large hospital and health centre for that area.
By his skills and perseverance the churches in Hong Kong were able to
come together, with international and local backing, to open the United
Christian Hospital at Kwun Tong. To this he added a new vision of
community health care. Dr. Paterson continues to lead the work of
these two major hospitals with great insight and devotion.
