CAMPAIGN ON NEED OF CHILD CARE BEGINS

A COMMUNITY-WIDE PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN ON FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION WAS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED TODAY (FRIDAY) TO MAKE FAMILIES MORE AWARE OF THE IMPORTANCE AND NEED OF PROPER CHILD CARE.
IT FORMS PART OF THE CONTINUOUS EFFORTS BY THE SOCIAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT AND VOLUNTARY WELFARE AGENCIES TO PROMOTE FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION AIMED AT STRENGTHENING FAMILY TIES AND FORESTALLING FAMILY BREAKDOWN.
THE MONTH-LONG CAMPAIGN WITH THE THEME OF THE CHILD AND THE FAMILY+ IS INTENDED TO DRAW PUBLIC'S ATTENTION TO THE SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS A FAMILY CAN GIVE TOWARDS THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD.
THROUGH A WIDE RANGE OF PROMOTIONAL PROGRAMMES AND PUBLICITY MEANS, FAMILIES WILL BE EDUCATED ON THE NEED FOR A HAPPY CHILDHOOD WHICH IS THE BEST START IN LIFE THEY CAN GIVE A CHILD.
AT A PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY, THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE (OPERATIONS), MRS. EVELYN DOE SAID THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION HAD LONG BEEN RECOGNISED BY THE GOVERNMENT.
SHE SAID THE GOVERNMENT HAD SET UP A CENTRAL GUIDING COMMITTEE TO IMPLEMENT ITS POLICIES AND PLANS ON FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION LAID DOWN IN THE WHITE PAPER ON SOCIAL WELFARE.
THE NEWLY-FORMED COMMITTEE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CO-ORDINATION, OVERALL PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION SERVICES IN HONG KONG AND REVIEWING THE SERVICES AGAINST CHANGING NEEDS.
THE COMMITTEE, SHE SAID, WILL BE REPRESENTED BY VOLUNTARY WELFARE AGENCIES, UNIVERSITIES AND GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS.
MRS. DOE STRESSED THAT FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION WAS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS AND THE FORTHCOMING PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN WAS THE THIRD OF ITS KIND.
+TWO PREVIOUS CAMPAIGNS, EMPHASISING THE CONCEPT OF FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION AND THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF DIFFERENT MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY, HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED, SHE SAID.
SHE SAID THE FORTHCOMING CAMPAIGN WOULD IDENTIFY CHILDREN AS A TARGET GROUP AND WOULD PINPOINT THREE IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF A CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT.
MRS. DOE SAID THE FIRST WAS THAT EVERY ONE HAD A PART TO PLAY IN THE CHILD'S NORMAL AND HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT.
+THE SECOND ELEMENT RELATES TO THE IMPORTANCE OF IDENTIFYING THE PHYSICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CHILD AT DIFFERENT STAGES OF GROWTH AND THE DIFFERENT NEEDS ASSOCIATED WITH THEM,+ SHE SAID.
THE THIRD, SHE SAID, WAS THAT THE CHILD PLAYED A PART TOO IN HIS OWN DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH INSTEAD OF ALWAYS BEING AT THE RECEIVING END.
