ONE OF THE SITES, MEASURING 1 500 SQUARE METRES,
AT TSIM SHA TSUI EAST, KOWLOON.

THE DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL WELFARE, MR. THOMAS LEE, TODAY (FRIDAY) STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK IN GUIDING AND HELPING STUDENTS WITH LEARNING OR BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS,
SPEAKING AT THE GRADUATION CEREMONY OF THE HONG KONG AND KOWLOON CHIU CHOW SCHOOL AT THE CITY HALL, MR. LEE SAID THAT APART FROM IMPARTING ACADEMIC KNOWLEDGE, SCHOOLS SHOULD TAKE ACCOUNT OF ANY FACTORS WHICH MIGHT AFFECT STUDENTS' LEARNING.
HE POINTED OUT THAT FROM TIME TO TIME, SCHOOL CHILDREN MIGHT HAVE PERSONAL MALADJUSTMENT, LEARNING DIFFICULTIES OR BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS WHICH THEY WERE UNABLE TO SOLVE THEMSELVES.
+SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK IS AN APPLICATION OF SOCIAL WORK PRINCIPLES AND METHODS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE PERSONAL GUIDANCE AND HELP IN OVERCOMING THESE PROBLEMS,+ HE SAID.
MR. LEE SAID SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERS, IN CLOSE LIAISON WITH TEACHERS AND PARENTS, HELPED STUDENTS THROUGH INTERVIEWS, COUNSELLING OR FAMILY VISITS.

HE SAID THE GOVERNMENT RECOGNISED NOT ONLY THE IMPORTANCE OF PROVIDING GENERAL YOUTH SERVICES BUT ALSO THE NEED TO REACH THOSE WITH PROBLEMS AT SCHOOLS.
THE LATEST WHITE PAPER ON SOCIAL WELFARE INDICATES THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENTION TO EXTEND SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK TO COVER ALL SCHOOLS, HE ADDED,
