SUPPLEMENT
SPEECH BY THE GOVERNOR, SIR MURRAY MACLEHOSE,
G.B.E., K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., AT THE OPENING
CEREMONY OF THE MACLEHOSE DENTAL CENTRE
ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 1979
I am indeed happy to be with you on this memorable occasion,
as I was in January 1977 when I laid the foundation stone for this
building.
The completion of this Centre marks an important phase in the
development of our dental service since. It makes possible the
introduction of a dental care programme for school children.
Starting from September 1980, the School Dental Service will
provide regular examination and simple conservative treatment to all
children entering Primary One and will be progressively extended to all
primary school children.
To meet anticipated demand, four additional School Dental
Clinics will be built in the next five years, two in Kowloon and two
in the New Territories. With the introduction of the School Dental
Service and the establishment in September 1980 of a Dental School at
Hong Kong University, we will have greatly improved provision for dental
services in our community.
