BROADWOOD ROAD IMPROVEMENT

APPROVAL TO WIDEN BROADWOOD ROAD FROM THE PRESENT 12 FEET TO 24 FEET WITH FOOT-PATHS ON BOTH SIDES WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE GAZETTE TOMORROW (FRIDAY).
THE APPROVAL HAS BEEN GIVEN UNDER SECTION 6(1)(A) OF THE STREETS (ALTERATION) ORDINANCE (CHAPTER 130).
THE ROAD WIDENING PROJECT WILL BE UNDERTAKEN BY HOPEWELL HOLDINGS LIMITED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THEIR REDEVELOPMENT FOR THEIR PROPERTIES ALONG THIS ROAD.
A GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN SAID TODAY (THURSDAY) THAT THE ROAD WIDENING WILL ENABLE THE PROVISION OF MORE AND BETTER HOUSING OF A TYPE OF WHICH THERE IS A SERIOUS SHORTAGE.
MANY OF THE EXISTING PROPERTIES ALONG BROADWOOD ROAD ARE PRE-WAR AND ARE GENERALLY OF A FAIRLY LOW DENSITY.
THE SPOKESMAN SAID A LANDSCAPE CONSULTANT EMPLOYED BY HOPEWELL HOLDINGS LIMITED HAS HAD A NUMBER OF MEETINGS WITH STAFF OF RELEVANT GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS TO WORK OUT A CONCEPTUAL LANDSCAPE PLAN FOR THE COMBINED RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT AND ROAD IMPROVEMENT WORKS.
THIS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A LANDSCAPE MASTER PLAN TO BE PRODUCED BY THE CONSULTANT WHICH WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE GOVERNMENT FOR FORMAL APPROVAL.
THIS MASTER LANDSCAPE PLAN, THE SPOKESMAN EXPLAINED, WILL DEFINE THE DETAILED LANDSCAPING REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS AREA TO ENSURE THAT ITS PRESENT PLEASANT ENVIRONMENT IS PRESERVED.
