Speech by the Governor, Sir Murray MacLehose
at the Tree-Planting Ceremony at Kei Ling Ha
Management Centre in Sai Kung on Thursday, June 8, 1978
Thank you for your welcoming words. I am extremely pleased to
hear of the considerable progress that is being made under the Country
Parks programme. I envy you all your jobs. While others struggle with
files or work on construction sites, you have healthy and challenging
tasks in the countryside.
Nevertheless you face considerable problems.
With more people visiting the countryside you will need to be
constantly alert to the problems of fire, litter and unauthorised
development. If you can maintain last season's exultant firefighting
record you will do very well.
My object today is to satisfy myself that this new and important
service is developing fast enough in men, equipment and buildings to do
its job.
I will watch your progress with interest, and I wish you success.
