MODERN HOUSES FOR RESITED FAMILIES
Thirty families who have vacated their private village houses
in North Kwai Chung to make way for Tsuen Wan's 14th public housing estate,
will soon be moving into modern resite houses.
The new houses have been built by the Government at a cost of
about $120,000 each to rehouse the indigenous villagers of Shek Wai Kok,
Kwu Hang and part of Yi Bor Chun Villages.
The villagers are decorating their new homes and are expected to
move in before the end of this month.
They have been given a special allowance of $6,500 to help meet
removal and decoration expenses.
Their new homes are in rows of three-storey coacrete houses at
the nearby Wo Yi Hop Road and Yau Ma Hom Road,
"The houses have the basic facilities of a modern home," Assistant
Tsuen Wan District Officer (Land Development), Mr. Albert Fung, said today.
Each house, he said, has a total floor space of 2,100 square feet
700 sq. ft. on each floor complete with kitchen and bathroom facilities and
electricity wiring.
"Both the first and second floors have a balcony. In addition,
the second floor is partitioned into one living room and two bedrooms with
built-in wardrobes," he said.
The partitioning of the two lower floors is left entirely to the
occupants as they may have their own ideas of how this should be done, he
added,
Mr. Fung said that in the meantime, the villagers' families were
receiving a rent allowance each month which enabled them to live in private
accommodation until they moved into the resite houses before the end of
this month.
