FUNDS DRIVE FOR NT SPORTS CONNIE

A mammoth community walk to help meet the target of 12.5 million

for the Queen's Silver Jubilee Apperl Fund will take place in the New

Territories on November 6 (Sunday), it was anoused today.

The walk is part of New Territories-wide drive to raise $2

million as the N.T. people's contribution towards the appeal fund which

will be used to help finance the multi-million dollar Jubilee Sports Centre

project in Sha Tin.

The "Walk for Sport will be held in Tsuen Wan, along a route

similar to that of the Community Chest's-annual N.T. walk,

It is being organised by a sub-committee formed last month under

the main N.T. Fund-Raising Committee chaired by the Secretary for the

New Territories, Mr. David Akers-Jones.

Announcing details of the walk, the "Walk for Sport" Sub-Committee

Chairman, hr. Cheung Yan-lung, said today the starting and finishing points

would be at Tai Wo Hau Public Playground at Castle Peak Road, next to the

Tsuen Wan Police Station.

He said the 14-mile walk would cover

circular route north of

Castle Peak: Road along Kwok Saui Road, Yau Ha Hon Road, Shing Mun Road,

Catchwater Road, On Yuk Rod and Castle Feale Road.

"In fact, the main route of the walk will be alorg the very pleasant

and picturesque Catchwater Road which leads from the Lower Shing Mun Dam

across Route Twisk to Chuen Lung," Mr. Cheung said.

There will be four checkpoints

Lei Muk Shue Playground, Lower

Shing un Dan, Route Twisk and 9 milestone, Castle Peak Road.

Mr. Cheung said the walk would start officially at 9 a.m. when

the senior unofficial member of the Executive Council, Sir Yuet-keung Kan,

cuts the ceremonial ribbon.
