PWD TO INVITE TENDERS FOR LAND FORMATION
The Public Works Department will invite tenders later this week
for the formation of more than 28 hectares of land in Tuen Mun New Town.
The works, which form part of the Tuen Mun Town stage two develop-
ment, involve excavating 1.2 million cubic metres of material from an area
to the west of the junction of Pui To Road and Pillar Point Road to fill
L
the low-lying areas to the north of the town.
Mr. Nicky Chan, P.W.D.'s Project Manager (Tuen Mun), said the
land obtained after site formation near the junction of Pui To Road and Pillar
Point Road would include about eight hectares for a public housing estate
capable of accommodating 20,000 people.
"Of the 21 hectares of land formed in the low-lying areas to the
north of Tuen Mun, about 12 hectares will be available for the construction
of a new hospital and nine hectares for other government, institutional
and community facilities and private residential development.
Other works associated with the project include the construction
of three multiple cell stormwater box culverts, two rectangular channels
for surface-water drainage and access roads.
To prevent flooding of the low-lying Lam Tei and Fu Tei areas,
Mr. Chan said about 1,600 metres of the river channels would be constructed.
He added that to maintain access across these river channels, four
reinforced concrete single span footbridges and one reinforced concrete single
span roadbridge would be built to replace the existing bridges.
Work on this project is scheduled to begin in November and will take
about 18 months to complete,
