EXHIBITION ON PREVENTING GASTRO-INTESTINAL DISEASES

A HEALTH EDUCATION EXHIBITION ON THE PREVENTION OF GASTRO- INTESTINAL DISEASES WILL BE HELD IN KOWLOON AND ON HONG KONG ISLAND NEXT WEEK.
THE EVENT IS ORGANISED BY THE MEDICAL AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT AS PART OF ITS ANNUAL HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMME.
THE EXHIBITION WILL FIRST BE HELD AT THE KWUN TONG COMMUNITY CENTRE, TSUI PING ROAD, KWUN TONG ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY (JULY 11 AND 12). IT WILL THEN MOVE TO THE WESTERN DISTRICT COMMUNITY CENTRE WESTERN STREET, HONG KONG ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY (JULY 14 AND 15).
THE EXHIBITION AT THE TWO PLACES WILL BE OPEN FROM 10 A.M. TO 4 P.M. DAILY. ALTHOUGH IT IS INTENDED FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN, MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC WILL ALSO BE WELCOME.
ITEMS ON DISPLAY WILL INCLUDE PICTURES, DIAGRAMS AND CHARTS ILLUSTRATING THE CAUSES OF SUCH GASTRO-INTESTINAL DISEASES AS TYPHOID FEVER, DYSENTERY, FOOD POISONING, AND HEPATITIS WHICH ARE PREVALENT IN THE WARMER MONTHS, AND WAYS TO PREVENT THEM.
THERE WILL ALSO BE FILM SHOWS ON PERSONAL AND FOOD HYGIENE.
A SPOKESMAN FOR THE DEPARTMENT SAID THE INCIDENCE OF GASTRO- INTESTINAL DISEASES HAS REMAINED NORMAL SO FAR THIS YEAR. HOWEVER, HE ADVISED THE PUBLIC TO TAKE ALL PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO PREVENT POSSIBLE OUTBREAKS IN THE SUMMER SEASON.
HE REMINDED THAT IT IS STRICTLY NECESSARY TO OBSERVE THE RULES OF PERSONAL HYGIENE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS, WHICH ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD OF PREVENTING SUMMER DISEASES, INCLUDING CHOLERA.
+THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT WHEN WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF WATER RESTRICTIONS, HE SAID.
THE SPOKESMAN ADVISED THAT FOOD MUST BE THOROUGHLY COOKED BEFORE CONSUMPTION, AND WATER SHOULD BE BOILED BEFORE DRINKING.
