DRAGON BOAT DINNER IN LONDON

The Hong Kong Association held a "Dragon Boat" dinner at

Savoy Hotel in London on Thursday (June 23) night.

HRH, the Duke of Kent was the guest of honour and spoke

Others who spoke were Dr. the Hon. Herry Fang and

at the dinner.

Mr. John Swire, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association.

The following is the full text of the Duke's speech:-

"If I had needed any encouragement to accept your invitation

to come to this dinner I should have found it I think in the discovery

that this is your fourth Dragon Doat Dinner a fact which made me

-

doubly pleased to accept. Not only do I have the happiest memories

of my own time in Hong Kong but I also as a former participant in one

of those dragon boat races have the clearest recollection of paddling

our boat at least it started as paddling, but we finished by pushing

it, up to our necks in murky water, across Taipo Harbour.

"That was 14 years ago but the impressions formed then are

as crystal sharp, as if it were last week. I assure you that you

have done ne a great honour in inviting me to join such a distinguished

/group
