The Authority has also managed to secure two adjoining
sites on which it proposes to build another four domestic blocks
of 10 to 12 storeys high and a secondary and a primary school.
They are scheduled for completion between 1978/79.
There will be about 1,430 flats, each about 300 square
feet, suitable for small families.
These seven blocks should provide homes for about 14,000
people. The estimated building cost is about $54 million.
The Tai Hang Tung redevelopment project is part of the
Housing Authority's long-term plan to relieve overcrowding and to
improve the living conditions of tenants in the older public housing
estates.
The existing 14 Mark I blocks will be demolished in stages
and in their place will be built public housing blocks of the new
design that provides for self-contained accommodation,
