Construction of Lai-Yiu Estate-vas carried out in three-
phases which started in 1973.
Phase I included the building of two twin-tower blocks, a podium with a Z-shaped building on top and a three-storey car park underneath. The Z-shaped block has a mamber of shops on the ground floor, two restaurants on the first floor with dormitory accommodation
on the top floor.
The phase II work included a third twin-tower block and two primary schools while the last phase comprised a slab block and
a secondary school.
Workmen are now putting the finishing touches to Phases I and II while Phase III, now under construction, is expected to be
completed by mid-1977.
On full completion, the estate will have 2,411 flats of
varying sizes

ranging from 356 square feet to the two-bedroom type
of 591 square feet,
Lai Yiu Estate will be fully self-contained with its own market, shops, restaurants and schools. A road is now being built to link the estate with Kwai Chung Road while at the same time discussions are being held with the Kowloon Motor Bus Company for a route leading to the urban areas.
