FIFTY-SEVENTH ESTATE READY FOR INTAKE NEXT MONTH

Lai Yiu Estate in Kwai Chung/Tsuen Wan will start taking in

tenants before Christmas.

This will be the Housing Authority's 57th estate, and the fourth estate/extension taken over during 1976 for letting, the others being Hing Wah II, Kwai Shing II/III and Lai King.

Lai Yiu Estate occupies a 21-acre site on a terraced hillside off Castle Peak Road and commands a panoramic view of Tsuen Wan, Kwai

Chung and Tsing Yi Island.

Because of the nature of the site, the four domestic blocks

forming the estate are built on different levels,

Initially, one twin-tower block of 730 flats will be available for letting in December to be followed by a similar block in January, a

third in February and the fourth in the second half of next year.

A spokesman for the Housing Department's Application Section

said that a number of flats would be available to waiting list applicants and some to tenants of the older estates who had applied for relief of

overcrowding.

"Investigation of eligible waiting list applicants has

already been carried out and offer letters will be sent out next

month," the spokesman said.
