WEN H.K. PRODUCTS EXCLUDED FROM U.S. G.S.P.

Ten Hong Kong products have been disqualified from ¿ ty-free

entry into the United States under that country's Generalised Scheme

of Preferences.

This is because the items have exceeded their "competitive need"

ceilings during the past year. Hong Kong is now obliged to stop iscuing

the relevant documents (Form A) in respect of these products, a Cominrce

and Industry Dejartment spokesman said today (Friday).

The ten items include certain precious stones, articles of such

stones, glass inners for vacuum flasks, certain metal cabinet locks,

certain household and sanitary articles, flashlights and flashlight parts,

hair curling devices and unbrella handles, walking stick handles,cane

handles and so on. Their specific TSUSA (Tariff Schedule US Anotated)

numbers are:

Details of the latest exclusion and what constitutes "competitive

need" are contained in a recent circular (Certificate of Preference

Circular No. 2/76) which the Commerce and Industry Department sent out

earlier this week.
