HONG KONG TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION PRAISED
THE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, KR. JOHN CANNING PAID TRIBUTE TODAY TO THE HONG KONG TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION FOR SUPPORTING GOVERNMENT CAMPAIGNS.
HE SAID THE SEMINARS AND ESSAY AND POSTER COMPETITIONS ORGANISED BY THE ASSOCIATION IN CONNECTION WITH THE +KEEP HONG KONG CLEAN+ AND +FIGHT VIOLENT CRIME+ CAPAIGNS HAD MET WITH GREAT SUCCESS.

HR. CANNING WAS SPEAKING AT THE GRANTHAM COLLEGE OF EDUCATION WHERE 'THE ASSOCIATION HELD A CEREMONY TO CELEBRATE ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY.
HE POINTED OUT THAT THE ASSOCIATION, FOUNDED IN 1934, IS THE OLDEST TEACHERS' UNION IN HONG KONG.
+ IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT FOR NEARLY 30 YEARS THE ASSOCIATION HAS HAD TE DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AS 115 PATRON AND HAS WORKED UP A CLOSE COLECTION WITH THE EDUCATION COPARTIKUT,+ HE SAID.
THE ASSOCIATION IS AN ACTIVE NENDEN OF THE WORLD CONFEDERATION OF THE TEACHING PROFESSIC AD ITS KENDERSHIP IS DRAWN FROM TEACHERS ENGAGED IN KINDERGARTEN, PRIMARY, SECONDARY AND POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION.
MR. CANNING ADDED; IT IS GRATIFYING TO OBSERVE THAT THE ASSOCIATION HAS ALWAYS HAD THE WELFARE OF ITS MEMBERS AT HEART AND HAS, SINCE ITS INCEPTION, BUILT UP QUITE AN
THE MOST IMPRESSIVE RECORD OF PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES. OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF SUCH ACTIVITIES IS, OF COURSE, THE ORGANISATION OF THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE WHICH IS ALWAYS WELL ATTENDED AND IN WHICH EDUCATIONAL TOPICS OF CURRENT INTEREST ARE DISCUSSED.+
THE DIRECTOR THEN MADE SOME REMARKS ON THE TEACHER'S IMPORTANT ROLE IN THIS HOSERN AGE.
+ALTHOUGH THE WORK OF THE SCHOOL KUST BE SEEN IN ITS SOCIAL SETTING, THERE IS AN OBLIGATION ON TEACHERS TO SEARCH OUT THE TALENTS, NEEDS, AMBITIONS AND PROBLEMS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL CHILD AND TO HELP HIM MAKE THE MOST OF HIMSELF. HE SAID
TO MEET THE CHALLENGES OF AN AGE OF RAPID TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL CHANGE, IR. CANNING SAID,+ EDUCATION MUST BE SUFFICIENTLY FLEXIBLE AND DYNAMIC TO SERVE A CONSTANTLY CHANGING, COMPLEX AND INTERDEPENDENT WORLD, AND YET RETAIN THE VALUES WHICH HAVE SURVIVED THE TEST OF CHANGING SOCIAL ORDERS.+.
