**This is a rapid rate of expansion," the spokesman commented,
"which could not be achieved without the devoted and painstaking
efforts of the Board of Governors.
"It is particularly important at this stage of expansion
that continuity should be maintained in the membership of the Board,
which has already successfully steered the Polytechnic through the
difficult period of its initial establishment.
"The Polytechnic occupies an important position within the
education system of Hong Kong. The services of distinguished people
from the industrial and commercial sectors as well as the universities,
are valuable in ensuring that its development is geared to the needs
of Hong Kong as an industrial and commercial city."
