But the Social Welfare Department is not alone in this field

and others like the Education and Medical Departments and voluntary

welfare organisations are also running a variety of services for the

deaf in Hong Kong.

Miss Chan said much has already been done but there was still

room for development, for example, in such areas as lip-reading and sign-language. She also hoped more activities would be organised for

deaf people.
