NEW AIRPORT GENERAL MANAGER
An aviation administrator with world-wide experience is coming
Lo Hong Kong this week to take up the post of Airport General Manager,
He is Mr. H.M. (Johnny) Johnston, who has been doing similar
work and holding the same title in Edinburgh Airport in Scotland since
1971.
He will take over from Mr. Ken Smith who will be returning; to
Australia in April.
Mr. Johnston is 53 and is married with two sons.
He first joined the Ministry of Civil Aviation in Scotland in 1947
en an Operations Officer after a distinguished career with Bomber Command
during the war. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, the
Distinguished Flying Cross and a Mention in Despatches.
He has bad extensive previous experience in a number of civil aviation
osts, including that of Director of Civil Aviation in Nyasaland, and Aviation
Ground Services Controller of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation
in lireria.
The out-going Airport General Manager, Mr. Ken Smith, was a Senior
Airnort Director at Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport before coming to Hong Kong.
Ile was temporarily seconded here after urgent requests were made
to the Australian and British airport authorities for a suitable replacement
to the late Mr. Bill Morgan, the previous Manager.
