The field of rensarch extended from the Chanuse law books

regional publications in Asia to glossaries of the United Nations.

In this way, a total of over 10,000 English words were admitted.

And in accordance with a classification of romu 10 categories of usage,

the Chinese tracelatos totalled over 29,000 entries.

The glossary also has four appendices giving the titles of the

Government Ordinances, the Civil and Miscellaneous Lists, geographical

names, weights and measures, in both Chinese and English.

The university, in order to carry out this important assignment,

worked closely with the Chinese Language Branch of the Department for Home

Affairs.

Besides setting up a Steering Committee, they invited a panel of

12 well-known legal experta and specialists to serve as Advisors to read

the manuscripts and to tak suggestion thus contributing to the glossary

their scholarship and authority.

Government was generously given, enabling the gluerary project to be completed

in a short time of 12 month.

The glossary when published hould prove to be a valuable tool

and reference for transisters not only in Hong Kong but all Chinese-English

bilingual communities throughout the world.

The Chinese University has sugposted that the copyright of the

English-Chinese Glossary of Applied Legal Terms should be retained by the

Government.
