MAIL DESTROYED IN SHIP FIRE
The Post Office announced today that as a result of a fire
on board a freighter the M.S. Tsedek surface mail posted in
Hong Kong between April 9 and 14 to Cameroon, Ghana, the Ivory Coast,
Mali, Zaire and certain other countries in Africa, may have been lost.
A spokesman said reports had been received that a fire had
broken out in the mail storage areas of the Tsedek, which sailed from
Hong Kong on April 17.
Exact details were not yet known, he said, but it was feared
that most of the mail had been destroyed.
