The Commerce and Industry Department intervened when some
elements in the trade started to exploit the situation.
As a result of a meeting with importers and representatives
the wholesalers, Mr. Jordan said, the wholesale price of 100 per
sent whole Thai rice had been brought down to today's $104 per picul
from $126 on February 26.
However, he pointed out that it would inevitably take "a little
time for such reductions to work their way through to the retail price."
