Future Development

The government's decision to sell the land will pave the way

for the planned future development of Tsing Yi Island.

The island, a predominantly rural area and home to about 3,500

people, has been earmarked as a future industrial centre with an ultimate

population of about 80,000.

The population of the neighbouring industrial towns of Tsuen

Wan and Kwai Chung is expected to increase from 325,000 people to 580,000

in the next three years.

Much of the labour force required for industries that establish

themselves on Tsing Yi Island will come from Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung.
