The Census and Statistics Department will carry out a survey of
household expenditure as from January next year to obtain material for the
revision of the present Consumer Price Index.
The survey aims at getting the relative proportions of household
expenditure spent on various items of commodities and services, from which
weights for a new Consumer Price Index will be derived.

Hong Kong.
Earlier this year, the Commissioner of Census and Statistics
announced that the present Consumer Price Index would be completely revised
in order to increase its accuracy and its capacity to reflect current conditions.

A department spokesman today appealed to the households concerned
