The Bank Notes and Certificates of Indebtedness Ordinance
was passed into law in 1946 to remove doubts as to the legal status of
bank notes issued during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong and to
provide for the meeting of liabilities consequent upon the status
given to them.
"The ordinance has had its effect and should be repealed,"
the spokesman said.
