The Bank Notes and Certificates of Indebtedness Ordinance

was passed into law in 1946 to remove doubts as to the legal status of

bank notes issued during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong and to

provide for the meeting of liabilities consequent upon the status

given to them.

"The ordinance has had its effect and should be repealed,"

the spokesman said.
