If contraband is discovered in the baggage, the inspector

does not have to leave his post and disrupt his work -- be can give an

immediate signal to the officer-in-charge who takes over the case.

On an average, 1,800 aircrafts come into Hong Kong each month,

bringing with them some 105,000 passengers, and this is steadily increasing.

As all passengers are processed through the baggage reclaim hall,

it is essential that they can be cleared in the shortest possible time.

The installation of counters has been coupled with an expansion

of Preventive Service staff to deal with the increased passenger traffic.

Note to Editors: Copies of photographs showing the new counters are distributed separately in the G.I.S. Press Boxes this afternoon.
