BUILDINGS DECLARED DANGEROUS
The Building Authority today declared Nos. 7 and 8 Ladder
Street Terrace, Hong Kong to be in a dangerous condition.
The Principal Government Building Surveyor said that in the
course of routine inspection, it was found that the load bearing brick
and masonry walls of these two buildings were extensively fractured,
No. 7 is a three storey pre-war domestic building and the party
wall separating it from No. 8 showed signs of recent movement. No. 8,
which is a two storey domestic building reconstructed in 1952, showed
signs of failure of the bearing of the reinforced concrete beams supporting
the first floor and roof.
Although both of these buildings are extensively shored, there
is a risk of collapse and notices of intention to apply for Closure
Orders in Victoria District Court at 9.30 a.m. on August 23, 1972 were
