PURCHASE OF 850 ADDITIONAL TV RECEIVERS
Government To Spend $1 Million This Year
Government is to spend one million dollars this year towards the
purchase of 850 additional television receivers for primary schools.
The sets will receive Educational Television programmes for
:
about 100,000, fourth-year prinary school pupils in the basic subjects
of Chinese, English, Mathematics and Social Studies.
The receivers will be supplied to government and aided schools
and will be shared by both morning and afternoon sessions.
A spokesman of the Education Department said:

Television is intended to vitalise education and to provide a means
whereby interesting new techniques, new methods and new materials can be
introduced from a central source direct into classrooms without an enormous
time-lag."
ETV broadcasts commenced in September last year with the opening
of the ETV Centre in Kowloon. Since then, programmes on Chinese, English,
Mathematics and Social Studies have been relayed daily during school hours
by RTV and HKTVB.
