POLITICAL ADVISER LEAVING HONG KONG

To Become Deputy High Commissioner In Ottawa

Mr. R.J. Stratton To Succeed Mr. A.F. Maddocks

The Political Adviser, ir. Arthur haddocks, who has been on

secondment to the Hong Kong Government from the British Diplomatic

Service since June 1968, is leaving Hong Kong on Hay 9 on re-assignment,

He will be spending some time on leave in England before

taking up his new appointment es Deputy High Commissioner and Minister

Commercial in Ottawa.

Kr. Haddocks will be succeeded as Political Adviser in Hong

Kong by lir. R.J. Stratton who is at present Head of the United Nations

Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

Mr. Stratton is expected to arrive in Hong Kong in July this year.

During the interim, Mr. C.J. Howells, assistant Political

Adviser, will act as Political Adviser.
