Assistant. He served in the Royal Artillery from 1940 to 1946 and was taken
prisoner of war in Singapore. He was interned in various prison camps in
Malaya and Siam. After the war, he returned to Birmingham and was promoted
to the post of Senior Administrative Assistant. In 1949 he was appointed
Director of Education, Seychelles. From 1953 to 1957 he was Assistant
Director of Education in Uganda and in charge of secondary education and
then became Deputy Director of Education in Kenya. He was appointed Permanent
Secretary for Education in 1960. He was appointed Director of Education in
Hong Kong in December, 1963 and arrived in the Colony in January, 1964 to
take up his post. Ho is Chairman of the Board of Education, Member of the
Senate and Court of the University of Hong Kong, Member of the Council of the
Chinese University of Hong Kong, Member of the Advisory Council of the British
Red Cross, Member of the Council of St. John Ambulance Brigade, Chairman of
the Working Party on the Marsh/Sampson Report, Vice-Chairman of the Sir
Robert Black Trust Fund Committee, President of the Hong Kong Schools Music
Association, President of the Hong Kong Schools Sports Association, Vice-
President of the Boy Scouts Association, Patron of the Hong Kong Teachers
Association and Patron of the New Territories Schools Sports Association.
The Hon. J.J. Robson
Mr. James Jeavons Robson is Acting Director of Public Works and has
been appointed in Official Member of the Legislative Council during the
absence on leave of the Hon. A.M.J. Wright. He joined the Public Works
Department as an Engineer in May, 1946 after serving with the Royal Marines
during the War. He was appointed Acting Chief Engineer, Port Works Office in
November, 1946 and Acting Chief Engineer, Roads Office in February, 1956, He
was promoted Chief Engineer in December, 1956 and Assistant Director of Public
Works in November, 1961. He is a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers
and was recently elected a Council Member of the same Institution.
