Account. in their hands to the credit of the Tropical Medicine Fund, of the sum of £100, which the Government of Basutoland had expressed its readiness to contri- bute to that fund, and, in these circumstances, and in order to effect the necessary adjustment, I have caused the sum of £100 to be paid from the Vote for Colonial Services to the credit of the account of the Crown Agents for the Colonies, to be re-credited by them to Basutoland funds.
3. The payment has been charged to a Suspense Account in the books of this Department, pending the receipt of your account in which the corresponding receipt from the Basutoland Government appears.

WITH reference to the letter from this Department of the 26th_ultimo (No. 20390),* in which you were requested to transfer the sum of £100 from Basuto- land funds to the credit of the Tropical Medicine Fund, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton to state that he has since been informed by the High Commis- sioner for South Africa that a similar amount has been received by him from the Basutoland Government, as its contribution to the fund'in question.
2. In view, however, of the instructions that were given by this Department on the 26th of July,* the contribution of £100 received by the High Commissioner will have to be re-credited to Basutoland account, and in order to effect an adjust- ment, the Paymaster-General has been instructed to transfer the sum of one hundred pounds (£100) from the Vote for Colonial Services to the credit of your account at the Bank of England, and I am to request that you will place this amount to the credit of the Basutoland Government.

WITH reference to the letter from this Department of the 7th of July,* and previous correspondence on the subject of the investigation of Mediterranean Fever, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton to transmit to you, to be laid before the Army Council, the accompanying extract from a lettert from the Royal Society respecting the allowances to be paid to Major Horrocks during his stay in Malta. 2. The Governor of Malta has stated that, should there be no objection on the part of the War Office to the payment of an additional allowance of 15s. a day to Major Horrocks from the Mediterranean Fever Commission Fund, he has none to offer; and I am to inquire whether the Council concur in what is proposed.
