Forwards report by Drs. Hatton and Macdonald on the sanitary situa tion in relation to the control of hookworm infection; and criticizes the proposal to replace the pan system by the pit system, which he does not propose to adopt without the instructions of the Secretary of State.

States that the Colonial Office inter- pretation of the treatment proposed in Ceylon is in accordance with that of the Commission, and that it is regarded as fundamental that treat- ment be based upon persuasion and education of public opinion.

the Governor on the subject of sand ing a representative to Seychelles to give aid for the relief and control of uncinariasis; offers to send a medical officer of special training and exper- iance to carry out the proposed

measures.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 8; notes with satisfaction that the difficulty in connexion with the budget has been overcome, and that the Com- mittee have kept fully in view the importance of securing that the im- provement of sanitary accommoda- tion is carried on concurrently with the treatment of infected parsons; hopes that the recommendations of the Committee will receive early and rapid consideration.

Encloses statement regarding the re- spective merits of pan and pit latrines.

Reports that the Governor has recom- mended that Dr. A. Macdonald, Medical Officer in charge of the ankylostomiasis campaign in Gren- ada, should be granted the same terms as regards leave as other colonial officials, and that the Secre tary of State has accepted the recom- mendation; trusts that the Commis. sion will see no objection.
