I consider Sir William MacGregor's policy in this matter as extremely judicious, and as likely to be followed by the best results. It is manifest that in such sanitary measures as those proposed for the prevention of, and protection from, malaria, the co-operation of the persons it is intended to benefit is absolutely necessary. Such co- operation cannot be secured unless the principles on which the proposed measures are founded are comprehended. The circulation of literature such as Sir William MacGregor has selected will powerfully contribute to this result.
Some important evidence of the efficacy of protection against malaria, in addition to that detailed in Celli's and Koch's papers, has recently been supplied by Grassi and also by Fermi and Tonsini. Their experiments have been summarised in the March number of "The Practitioner," a number entirely devoted to the subject of malaria, and which, I would suggest, might be circulated among the Governors and Medical Officers of all tropical Colonies along with Sir William MacGregor's translations. Practitioner" can be procured from Messrs. Cassell and Company, La Belle Sauvage, The Ludgate Hill.
Within the last few days further evidence of the value of malarial prophylaxis, founded on recent discovery, has been published by Dr. F. Martirano, of Italy. As yet this paper has not been translated into English.
