(2) makes any piece of metal into a fit size or figure to facilitate the coining therefrom of any counterfeit coin with intent that counterfeit current coin shall be made thereof,

is liable to fourteen years penal servitude; and

any person who buys, sells, or possesses any such piece of metal with such intent as aforesaid is guilty of felony.

277.—Clipping or sweating Coin.

Any person who files, clips, sweats, or in any way diminishes or lightens any current coin with intent that when so dealt with it may pass as current coin, is liable to fourteen years penal servitude.

Any person who, without lawful authority or excuse, A. 322 (d) knowingly conveys out of His Majesty's Mint

(2). such thing any as mentioned in Section 275 or any useful part thereof, C. 151 (8) or any coin, bullion, netal or mixture of metals, is guilty of felony.

279.-Passing counterfeit Coin.

(S).

Any person who pays, passes off, tenders, offers, or other. A. 331-2. wise uses as current coin, any counterfeit coin which he knows B. 375. to be counterfeit, is guilty of a misdemeanour,

If two or more of the said coins are dealt with as aforesaid c. 90, 8. 9. together, only one offence is committed; but if the offender deals as aforesaid with three or more counterfeit current coins together, or if when he deals with any counterfeit current coin he has in his possession two or more other counterfeit current coins, he is guilty of felony; and if the total value imported by such coins exceeds £10, he is liable to penal servitude for life.

280.-Possessing counterfeit l'oin.

Any person who has in his possession any counterfeit coin, A. 329,330, knowing it to be counterfeit and with intent to pay it, pass it B. 373-4. off, tender or offer it, or otherwise use it as current coin, is C. 155 (3) guilty of a misdemeanour.

If the offender possesses as aforesaid, two or more such coins together, he commits only one offence; but if he possesses as aforesaid three or more counterfeit current coins together, he is guilty of felony; and if the total value imported by such coins exceeds £10, he is liable to penal servitude for life.

281.-Possessing Clippings, &c., of current Coin.

Any person who without lawful authority or excuse, has in his possession any filings, clippings, gold or silver bullion, or B. 369. gold or silver in dust or in solution, obtained from any current C. 153. coin, knowing it to have been so obtained, is guilty of a mis- 24 & 25 V. demeanour.

282.-Passing Medals, &c.

c. 99, s. 5.

Any person. who, with intent to defraud, pays, passes off, A. 324 (c). tenders, offers or otherwise uses as a current coin, any medal B. 378 (c). or piece of metal which is not a current coin, knowing that it C. 160. is not a current coin, is liable to imprisonment for one year, and is also guilty of a simple offence.

283.-Defacing Coins.

Any person who, without lawful authority or excuse, defaces any current coin by stamping thereon any word, letter, device or mark is liable to one year's imprisonment, and is also guilty e. 99, s. 16. of a simple offence.

284.—Offence after a previous Conviction.

Any person who, after a conviction of any offence under this Chapter, is convicted of any offence under this Chapter, is liable to penal servitude for life if he would otherwise have been liable to fourteen years penal servitude; or to fourteen years penal servitude if he would otherwise have been liable to seven years penal servitude, and shall be guilty of felony if he would other- wise have been guilty of a misdemeanour.
