2. This Code shall come into force on the

3.-Definitions and Interpretation of Terms.
In this Code the following words and expressions are used
in the following senses :——
“A.B." means the Colony of A.B. (as the case may be).

"Act" includes omission; and doing an act includes making an omission.
An attempt" to commit an offence is the doing, with intent to commit that offence, of an act forming part of a series 1878, s. 32. of acts which would have constituted the offence if the com. pletion of such series of acts had not been prevented, either by the voluntary determination of the offender not to complete the offence, or by some other cause; and it is immaterial whether, under the circumstances, such completion were possible or not.

The question whether an act done with intent to commit an offence is or is not only preparation for the commission of the offence, and too remote to constitute an attempt to commit it, is a question of law.
Carnal connection shall be deemed to be unlawful within the meaning of this Cole, when it takes place otherwise than between husband and wife.
A "felony" is any offence which by this Code is made a felony or is punishable, without proof of previous conviction, with penal servitude or death.
"The Governor" means the Governor of A.B. in Executive Council.
"His Majesty's dominions" includes the United Kingdom. A "misdemeanour" is any offence which is not a felony or a simple offence.
"Night" means the interval of time between six p.m. and

An "offence" is any act punishable by law.
