Grenada, March 9, 1900.

In continuation of the correspondence as per margin, I have the honour to inform you that the public subscriptions that have been col- lected in St. Vincent in aid of the sufferers from the War in South Africa amounted on the 6th instant to £225, of which the sum of £200 has been already re- mitted as a first instalment..

2. In your despatch, St. Lucia, of the 6th ultimot you suggested that St. Lucia monetary aid might be contributed to the British Empire League Fund, and I

now await the reply of Mr. King-Harman.

3. With reference to the ultimate disposal of St. Vincent's contribution, I have communicated to the Administrator of that island the wish expressed in the de- spatch referred to in the previous paragraph, and I shall inform you later what the wishes of the subscribers are.

4. It is indeed gratifying to me to convey to you from the Windward Islands this practical evidence of the loyalty and patriotism of the people of St. Vincent, with the knowledge of the poverty and financial distress of the Island, the people's efforts to assist in relieving the suffering of their fellow subjects are generous and laudable.

4. It may be convenient to mention that the Grenada contributions have so far excccded £400, making that for the Windward Islands now over £1,000.

It was the wish of the meeting that Grenada donations should be devoted to the objects with which the Transvaal War Fund has been raised, which are explained in the heading to the subscription list locally used, copy appended.

THE TRANSVAAL War Fund, Grenada.

Fund for the benefit of the Widows and Orphans and other dependents of officers and men of Her Majesty's Forces, Naval and Military, who have unfortunately lost and may lose their lives in South Africa; of the soldiers and sailors themselves who have got and may get disabled by wounds; and of the wives and children separated from their husbands and fathers by the exigencies of the war.

In order to give the public the widest scope for their benevolence, the lists will remain open during the war, as the effort now put forth must necessarily be one of a sustained character.

Grenada, March 10, 1900.

I continuation of my despatches, as per margin, it affords me sincere pleasure to convey to you that a public inceting, over which I had the honour to preside, was held in York House, St. George's, Grenada, on the afternoon of the 29th January last, to express sympathy with the sufferers from the War in South Africa, and to further a sclicme in aid of the Transvaal War Fund which was opened at the Mansion House towards the close of last year by the Lord Mayor of London.

2. The meeting was most representative, loyal, and enthusiastic. The following resolutions were moved on the occasion and were unanimously adopted:-

"That this meeting desires to express unalloyed sympathy with the widows, orphans, and friends of the gallant soldiers and sailors who have died, or may die, or become permanently disabled in their heroic efforts to maintain the supremacy of the British Empire in South Africa and to free the Transvaal of that oligarchical tyranny which has for so many years past prevailed in timat territory.".

"That this meeting desires to express its entire approval of the steps which have already been taken by His Excellency the Governor of the Colony for the creation of a fund in aid of the widows and orphans of British soldiers who have met their death, and the wives and children of those who have been perma- nently disabled in the South African war. And this meeting pledges itself

Government House, Saint Lucia, March 2, 1900

I HAVE the honour to inform Your Excellency that on the receipt of the 1'ress telegrams announcing the surrender of General Cronje, the relief of Kimberley, and the raising of the siege of Ladysmith, great rejoicing was manifested in Castries, and last night a torchlight procession was organized to march from the town to Governine at House, in order to make expression to me, as Adminikator, of the gad feelings of the people, and to request me to transmit to Her Majesty the Queen, through the proper channel, an assurance of the loyal rejoicings of the inhabitants of Castries at the welcome news of the success of Her Majesty's Forces in South Africa.

2. The procession, ablaze with torches and accompanied by a band of music, headed by the Chairman of the Town Board, and many of the leading people of the
