Article II-In addition to the above soundings the Contractors shall, subject to the Profile direction of the Engineer, make profile soundings at positions where the route of the soundings. cable approaches the land, in order that the slope may be determined, and a suitable approach to the landing place of the cable may be selected.

The number of these profile soundings is limited to forty, and the approximate positions where they shall be made are as follows :—

The approach to Queensland (Moreton Bay). The approach to Fiji (Ndavetta Channel).'

The approach to New Zealand (Parenga-renga).

Article III-For the purpose of examining and reporting upon the most suitable Examina landing place for the cable, the sites of stations, and obtaining local information upon tion of these points, the Contractors shall, if necessary, and subject to the Engineer's direction, Landing afford the Engineer opportunity for such examination at :—--

Queensland (Moreton Bay), Norfolk Island (Sydney Bay), New Zealand (Parenga-renga), Fiji (Suva),

Fanning Island,

but the Contractors will not be required for this purpose, without extra payment, to delay the ship, and sounding operations specified for more than a total period of ten days
