No. 28.

ON

MINUTES OF THE THIRTY-THIRD MEETING OF THE MANAGING COMMITTEE OF THE TROPICAL DISEASES BUREAU, HELD WEDNESDAY, THE 18TH JULY, 1923.

Present:

SIR H. READ (Chairman).

DR. A. BALFOUR.

SIR DAVID BRUCE.

SIR Havelock Charles.

MR. E. M. B. INGRAM.

MR. W. C. HANKINSON (Secretary),

DR. A. G. Bagshawe, Director of the Bureau, also attended.

1. The Minutes of the Thirty-Second Meeting of the Committee were confirmed.

2. The Director presented the account of income and expenditure for the financial year 1922-23. The receipts from sales and advertisements, £1,132 6s. 9d. showed an advance of £35 on the previous year; advertisement revenue accounted for £159. The subscribers to the Tropical Diseases Bulletin and Tropical Veterinary Bulletin were 639 and 230 respectively. The account was passed.

3. The Committee then proceeded to consider the recommendation that, in the calculation of back payments of Mr. Sheppard's superannuation, bis war service should be reckoned as if he had been in receipt of salary. The Committee agreed to these proposals and approved the payment of an annual premium of £78 155., of which £26 5s. will be recovered from Mr. Sheppard's salary by monthly instalments, and a single non-recurring payment of £252, plus £117 in respect of war service.

4. The Director then proposed that the third lady assistant secretary, whose appointment was approved at the last meeting of the Managing Committee, should be placed on an incremental scale of £130-£10-£200 a year. The Committee approved this proposal.

Dr. Bagshawe reported that the second lady assistant secretary had resigned and that he has secured the services of another well-qualified lady, and he recommended that she should be granted her first increment on 1st October next, i.e., after five months' service instead of at the end of one year. The Committee agreed

to this.

The Committee also approved of an annual payment in respect of insurance of the senior lady assistant secretary of £35 12s. 6d., of which £11 178. 6d. would be recoverable by monthly instalments from her salary.

5. The Committee then proceeded to discuss the question of a successor to Dr. Graham Little, who has resigned the post of Sectional Editor of Tropical Dermatology. After some discussion, they agreed to leave it to Dr. Bagshawe to find a suitable man.
