No. 22.
MINUTES OF THE TWENTY-NINTH MEETING OF THE MANAGING COMMITTEE OF THE TROPICAL DISEASES BUREAU, HELD ON FRIDAY, THE 17TH FEBRUARY, 1922.
Present:
SIR H. READ (Chairman).
COLONEL A. BALFOUR.
SIR R. HAVELOCK CharlES.
MR. W. C. HANKINSON (Secretary).
DR. A. G. BAGSHAWE, Director of the Bureau, also attended.
Sir H. Read announced that since the last meeting Sir J. West Ridgeway had resigned the Chairmanship of the Committee.
1. The Minutes of the Twenty-eighth Meeting of the Committee were approved.
2.
A statement of Receipts and Expenditure for the half-year April to September, 1921, was received and passed (copy annexed).
3. The Committee then proceeded to receive and consider an estimate of This revenue and expenditure for the financial year 1922-23 (copy annexed). showed that apart from an estimated balance of £800 on 31st March, 1922, expen- diture would be in excess of income by £587. Dr. Bagshawe pointed out that owing to the adoption of a thinner paper for the Tropical Diseases Bulletin he would be enabled to issue one yearly volume instead of two. With the less cost of the new paper and the substitution of one index for two it was hoped to effect a saving of £120 during the year. The Committee approved the estimate.
4. The Committee considered a proposal to appoint a Sectional Editor for "Laboratory Methods" at a salary of £30 a year.
The Director stated that he wanted to do this for some time, as he thought that a section on this subject would
be of great help to readers of the Bulletin. He suggested that Dr. J. D. Thomson would be a very suitable. sectional Editor. The Committee approved the appointment.
5. Dr. Bagshawe then presented a Memorandum showing the irregularity of the receipt of the Bureau's income, and pointed out that most of the contributions came in the last three months of the financial year. The Secretary was directed to look into the matter and to see what could be done.
6. The Committee confirmed the re-appointment of Mr. Sheather as Editor
of the Tropical Veterinary Bulletin.
7. Dr. Bagshawe reported that Colonel Lyle Cummins, A.M.S., had resigned his appointment as Sectional Editor for "Leprosy," and that he had approached Sir Leonard Rogers, who was willing to undertake the work. The Committee approved the appointment.
8. The Director stated that there was now a sum of £807 9s. 5d. in the Provident Fund which was placed on deposit account, and that the total would he increased in March by £250. The Committee considered that this sum should be invested in a Trust Security, and left it to Dr. Bagshawe to consult the Secretary of the London School of Tropical Medicine and the Crown Agents for the Colonies as to the best method of doing this.
