REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF HELMINTHOLOGY.
I HAVE the honour to present a Report on the work of my Department for the balf-year ending 30th April, 1922.
Staff-During the period under review research grants to the Department were renewed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Medical Research Council, and the staff consisted of :-

Expeditions. (a). British Guiana. The various members of the British Guiana Expedition have,now returned to London, Drs. Khalil and Lee in September, Dr. Leiper in October, Dr. Vevers in November, and Dr. Anderson in January. The material collected is being worked out and it is hoped that the summary of our conclusions will be incorporated in the next half-yearly report.
(b). In December, Dr. Leiper proceeded to Cairo for a month to consult with the Egyptian Fublic Health Authorities regarding Bilharziosis. From the material obtained during this visit two papers have been published by Dr. Khalil and Miss Le Bas.
Teaching. Two courses of Medical Helminthology with laboratory instruction were given as part of the general curriculum of the School. One student (Mr. H. Ross, B.V.Sc.) attended the laboratory for special work in. aystematic Helminthology.
Publications. The first number of "Collected Papers" of the Department of Helminthology has been issued. It is proposed to bring together in this form from time to time reprints of the various publications made by workers in the Depart ment. The first number issued in May contains fifteen papers, of which the following are the titles :-

H24, Exchange Buildings, Liverpool, 1st May, 1922. I BEG to submit the following report for the period 1st November, 1921, to 30th April, 1922.
Tuition. The number of students attending the course of instruction for the Diploma of Tropical Medicine during the Lent term was nine, and twelve veterinary students attended the special courses in Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology.
Staff-The following new appointment has been made: House Physician and Clinical Pathologist.-R. M. Gordon, M.D., D.P.H.
Research. Details of investigations undertaken during this period will be found below under Publications. The various lines of research include:
Study and description of new blood-sucking arthropoda.
Study and description of helminths, more especially Australian cestodes. Inquiry into the prevalence, from about 1900, of undulant fever in Malta. Survey of the anopheline breeding-places in Freetown, and of an area of the Colony of Sierra Leone where sleeping sickness was supposed to be prevalent.
Research into the treatment of trypanosomiasis in animals.
