SIR,

(Received 7th July, 1921.)

London School of Tropical Medicine,

(University of London),

Endsleigh Gardens,

Euston Road, N.W.1..

6th July, 1921.

I HAVE the honour to submit, herewith, the half-yearly reports of the following Special Departments of the School :-

Entomology Professor A. Alcock, C.I.E., I.M.S., F.R.S. Helminthology: Dr. Geoffrey Vevers.

Protozoology: Dr. J. Gordon Thomson.

The report in regard to the Helminthological Department is compiled by Dr. Geoffrey Vevers, the Assistant in the Department, as the Director, Professor R. T. Leiper, is in Georgetown, where he is in charge of an expedition for the purpose of investigating the cure of filarial diseases and the eradication of filarial infection in British Guiana. The personnel of the expedition consists of the Director, Professor Leiper, Dr. J. Anderson, Dr. M. Khalil, and Dr. C. U. Lee, together with the Laboratory Assistant, W. McDonald. The party left England in February. Dr. G. M. Vevers, the Assistant in the Helminthological Department. is leaving this week, and will join the expedition in Georgetown. The length of stay in the Colony depends on the development of the plans. The authorities in the Colony are rendering much assistance to the members of the expedition, and very satisfactory progress is reported.

The number of students attending the School continues to increase, and there are seventy-one in attendance this session, this being the largest number on record.

I am, &c.,

Enclosure 1 in No. 1.

1921.

REPORT OF ENTOMOLOGICAL DEPARTMENT FOR THE HALF-Year Ended 30TH APRIL,

SIR,

London School of Tropical Medicine,

Department of Medical Entomology,

6th June, 1921.

I HAVE the honour to submit a report on the Department in my charge for the half-year ending 30th April, 1921.

I have been personally in charge all the time. The Assistant in the Department. Dr. F. W. O'Connor, has continued in the Indo-Pacific region, where he is investi- gating the causation, pathology, and therapeutic treatment of filariasis. Owing to poverty of opportunity for the experimental treatment of the disease, he has shifted his headquarters from the Gilbert and Ellice Islands to Samoa. where the disease is prevalent no less than in the former Islands, and facilities for work are

much better.
