Dr. J. A. Pickels, Principal Medical Officer, Gold Coast, attended the Committee and gave evidence before them. (Evidence reported separately).

After Dr. Pickels retired the Committee discussed their future procedure and agreed to invite Dr. Hood to give evidence before the next meeting. The name of Dr. J. Currie, W.A.M.S., was also suggested as a witness for the next meeting on the 24th of November. Sir J. Fowler suggested that Sir J. Rose Bradford should be invited to give evidence at some date in the future.

The Committee then adjourned.

The Second Ordinary Meeting of the Committee was held on the 24th November, at 3 p.th.

All the members were present except Sir W. B. Leishman.

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.

Dr. J. Currie, Senior Medical Officer, Nigeria, attended and gave evidence. Dr. T. Hood, C.M.G., Director of Medical and Sanitary Services, Nigeria, also gave evidence.

The Committee considered the draft list of witnesses. Sir J. Fowler suggested that They The Committee agreed. Sir J. Rose Bradford should be called as a witness. also agreed to invite Mr. Clementi and Mr. Gideon Murray, M.P., and representatives of Medical Schools in Dublin and Edinburgh to give evidence, and Sir J. Fowler Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew Balfour was suggested Dr. Harvey Littlejohn as the latter. also agreed to.

The Committee agreed to the draft list of questions to be circulated as a guide to witnesses,

The Committee met on the 32nd of December at 3 p.m. Sir Willian Leishman was absent.

Dr. E. Langley Hunt, C.M.G., Inspecting Medical Officer, Ceylon, and Superin- tending Medical Officer (designate) Jamaica, attended and gave evidence. Dr. Langley Hunt was followed by Mr. C. Clementi, C.M.G., Colonial Secretary of British Guiana, and subsequently Mr. A. C. C. Parkinson, O.B.E., of the Colonial Office, gave evidence.

The Committee adjourned till Monday, the 5th of January at 3 p.m., after instructing the Secretary to secure the attendance of Dr. Lucy, Dr. Conyers, and Mr. Darnley for the next Meeting if possible.

The Committee met on the 8th of December at 3.0 p.m.

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.

Mr. A. Cooke, Assistant Private Secretary, attended and gave evidence.

Mr. R. E. Drake-Brockman, M.R.C.S., L.R,Ç.P., late Medical Officer in Somaliland, also gave evidence.

A letter from the British Medical Association on the subject of the Medical Services in East Africa was read.

The sixth meeting of the Committee was held at the Colonial Office on Monday, the 5th of January.

Sir W. Leishman was absent.

The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.

Dr. Lucy, Principal Medical Officer, Straits Settlements, and Dr. G. B. Mason, late

Medical Officer, Leeward Islands, gave evidence.

The Committee agreed that after the examination of witnesses at the next meeting they would engage in a preliminary discussion, with a view to seeing how far they had arrived at an agreement.

The Committe adjourned till Monday, the 12th of January.
