10. s.s. "Grahamland.”—Further reminders have been addressed to the Agent- General for British Columbia in connexion with the settlement of the accounts for this vessel, but no reply has been received thereto up to the present.
11. Coffee ex motor schooner “Twee Ambt."-Shipments of this coffee were made during January, in the steamships "Prah" and Egba," and the Governor of Sierra Leone has reported that the balance has been sold locally. The Admiralty Marshal is arranging for the sale of the coffee shipped to this country.
12. Copper sheeting and discs ex s.s. "Kalymnos" per s.s. "Campus."-The account sales for this cargo have been accepted as satisfactory subject to audit. In view of the low value of the consignment and the unusually heavy amount of work involved, a fee of eleven guineas was allowed to the brokers in addition to the agreed commission of one-half per cent.
13. Cocoa beans ex 8.8.
Erato" per s.s. "Cove."―This cargo has been sold by Messrs. C. M. and C. Woodhouse at prices ranging between 558. and 90s. per cwt. The account sales have been examined by the accountant and accepted as satisfactory, subject to audit.
14. Dyestuffs at Alexandria.-The Foreign Office have intimated that, after consultation with the Board of Trade, they have expressed concurrence in a pro- posal by the Marshal of the Prize Court at Alexandria that the remaining dyestuffs may be disposed of locally, either to the Egyptian Government or by auction.
15. Commissions charged by Messrs. Churchill and Sim in connexion with the sale of prize cargo.-It has been ascertained unofficially that the reference to the Admiralty Registrar in regard to the charges made by this firm for sales conducted by them for the account of the Admiralty Marshal will take place shortly. The reference will not extend to the Committee cases, but these cases can be reconsidered in the light of the decision reached in the Admiralty Marshal's cases.
16. Finances. The monthly statements received from the Accountant show a balance of £1,982,137 9s. Od. on the 30th September, and £1,982,598 15s. Od. on the 31st October last.

THE Sub-Committee beg to report the following action taken
-
1. s.o." Bellas."-The additional sleeper voyage mentioned in the last previous report was duly arranged and the vessel left Cape Town for Fremantle on the 4th May. The managers received from the agents at Cape Town an unsatisfactory report upon the conduct of the master, and have arranged to appoint a new master upon the arrival of the ship at Fremantle The vessel continues to make good
passages.
2. 8.0. “ Clevedon."--This vessel, while on voyage from Melbourne to this country with a cargo of wheat, has put into Callao in a damaged condition. The whole of the cargo will have to be discharged, and it is hoped that arrangements will he made by the Wheat Commission to sell the cargo at Callao and terminate the voyage there, the charterers paying the saine freight as to the United Kingdom. The repairs are expected to be heavy, and the master has been instructed to telegraph an estimate of the cost as soon as he is in a position to do so.
3. s.v. "Terpsichore."-This vessel is expected to sail from New Zealand for this country about the middle of July.

4. s.v. “Soithiod."-Messrs. John Stewart and Company have been appointed to manage this vessel on behalf of the Committee, and she has been fixed to load a cargo of lumber for this country. The vessel has been 'seriously delayed at Halifax in consequence of the dry dock not being available, but is expected to sail at an early date.

s.s. "Apolda."-An application by Messrs. Millar's Timber and Trading Company, Limited, for the use of this steamer for a seventeenth voyage for the con- veyance of timber between Western Australia and South Africa was received and

agreed to, but the Ministry of Shipping have since intimated that, in accordance with a decision of the War Cabinet, this steamer is to be handed over to the Government of the Union of South Africa. The managers of the vessel have been requested to accept the instructions of the Ministry of Shipping in connexion with the transfer, and it has been suggested to the Ministry that the actual transfer should be deferred for the completion of the repairs which are in hand. The Union Government are in any event liable for the cost of these repairs, and the postpone- ment of the transfer of the vessel until such time as the repairs are completed has been suggested in order to avoid the complication of accounts which would other- wise occur.
6. Steamships "Huntress " (ex "Frisia") and Seattle (ex "Bangor").—— A recent communication from the Ministry of Shipping shows that these steamers also are being transferred to the Government of the Union of South Africa.
7. 3.5. "Tandem" (ex "Birkenfels ")-A despatch received in the Colonial Office from the Governor-General of the Union of South Africa shows that the Prize Court at Cape Town has decided that the substitute for the Marshal of that Court may retain for his own use the sum of £548, which had been collected in this
in respect of the equivalent of fee 49 in Appendix B. to the Prize Court Rules. 8. 5.8. "Hamm."--The Commonwealth Government have remitted the sum of £12,086 1s. 2d., which had been expended by the Committee in connexion with the forwarding of this steamer from South Africa to Australia with her original cargo.
9. Steamships 'Lucia," "Rooke," and
Elder “Erymanthos.”—Messrs. Dempster and Company have secured a refund of the premium paid in connexion with the unauthorised insurance of the homeward freights, and the accounts for the West African voyages of these steamers are accordingly being closed.

10. 8.3. *Kandy" (ex " Moltkefels ").—The Ministry of Shipping have settled the claims, amounting to £4,482 2s. 7d., put forward by the Committee in respect of (a) the cost of the voyage of this steamer from Liverpool to Karachi in the summer of 1915; and (b) the expenses incurred in connexion with the loading of Admiralty stores at Hull in September, 1915.
11. 3.5. "Koerber."-In conformity with the arrangement made with the Director of Transports in July, 1915, the Ministry of Shipping have made good to the Committee the loss of £3,791 5s., resulting from the removal of this steamer from Alexandria to London.
12. $.8.
"Diyatalawa" (ex “Rappenfels ").—The India Office have agreed to the payment of hire, at "Blue Book" rates, for the use of this steamer for the voyage to the Persian Gulf during 1916, and the matter is in course of adjustment.
13. 8.0. "Chile."-The funds held by the Committee on account of this vessel have been utilized to meet grants, amounting to £117, recommended by the Prize Claims Committee.

Steam trawler " Afrikander" (ex “Bismarck "). This vessel has been returned by the naval authorities to the custody of the Prize Court at Cape Town, and the Admiralty have agreed to her being re-requisitioned for use by the Govern- ment of the Union of South Africa.
15. Coffee, ex motor schooner “Twee Ambt."--This cargo has been disposed of by the Admiralty Marshal, and the various insurances arranged by the Committee will be completed as soon as the sum realized by the cargo is known.
16. Lead piping, ex s.s. "Kalymnos.”—The account sales for this cargo have been examined by the Accountant and accepted as satisfactory subject to audit.
17. Seventh_ Interim Report (relating to the requisition and valuation of detained enemy ships).—Orders for requisition under Order XXIX., Rule 1, of the Prize Court Rules, and for valuation, have been obtained in the test cases submitted to the Prize Court in this country, but it is understood that His Majesty's Procurator General is delaying action in other cases pending an expression of the views of His Majesty's Government with regard to the ultimate disposal of the detained vessels.
