MEMORANDUM FROM THE AGENT-GENERAL FOR VICTORIA.

On the 29th March, the Honourable Peter McBride (Agent-General for Victoria, Australia) handed over to the Commission for Relief in Belgium cheques for the following amounts:—

£20.000 from the Lord Mayor of Melbourne's Belgian Relief Fund. £2.000 from the City and District of Geelong. £1,000 from the State Service Fund.

And a cheque for £2,000, being a contribution from the Victoria State Schools, was handed by the Agent-General on 31st March to the Commission. 31st March, 1915.

AM desired by Cominonwealth Government to offer for service with Imperial Forces double general hospital without marquees, consisting of thirty-two Medical Officers, two quartermaster(s), dispenser, 144 female nurses, 220 ? rank-and- file. All possible equipment will be sent from here, and you will be cabled regard- ing deficiencies. Government suggests Sir William MacCormick be offered appointment as Consulting Surgeon, as necessary Commanding Officer with military experience should be here to raise corps. Professional capabilities of proposed staff, including specialists, very high. Consider unit will be ready to embark about four weeks.-FERGUSON,

MEMORANDUM FROM THE AGENT-GENERAL

THE Honourable Peter McBride (Agent-General for Victoria, Australia) has handed over to the Commission for Relief in Belgium cheques for the following

amounts :-

A further contribution of £20,000 from the Lord Mayor of Melbourne's

Belgian Relief Fund.

A further contribution of £1,000 from the City and District of Geelong, as

a birthday gift to the King of the Belgians.

A remittance of £340 has been forwarded to the American Ambassador in London for transmission to Cardinal Mercier, the same being a further contribu- tion on behalf of the Lady Mayoress of Melbourne's Fund for the relief of dis- tressed Belgian nuns in Belgium.

The total contributions received by the Agent-General for Victoria from various funds in the State for the relief of the Belgians amount approximately to £124,000.

I HAVE the honour to state, for the information of the Secretary of State, that

a further gift of meat from the Pastoralists' Union of New South Wales has been despatched to the Imperial Government.

The gift consists of 400 carcases of mutton and 36 quarters of beef by 8.8. Star of Victoria," and 1,934 carcases mutton, 156 quarters of beef, and two sides of veal by 8.8. Marere."

3.

As with previous consignments, the donors to the Pastoralists' Union Fund, while placing the disposal of the meat entirely at the discretion of His Majesty's Government, have expressed the wish that part should be utilized for the relief of Belgian distress.

4. Duplicate bills of lading and other documents are enclosed herewith.
