D. SLYNE,

Receiver-General, Chairman, Liquidating Committee.

DEAR SIR,

Enclosure in No. 186.

Royal Bank Buildings,

Port of Spain, 22nd January, 1917. I BEG to enclose herewith, as requested, statements with reference to the Trinidad Properties, Limited, for the information of His Excellency the Governor. The "Siparia" estate is a property in course of development, and consequently the figures given are only approximate. In addition to the cacao there are some 6,000 coco-nut trees planted, and also about 5,000 limes.

"La Victoria" is a small property situated at Cunupia. The lands are not of the best for the cultivation of cacao, and the trees have been severely damaged by drought. I am having limes put in, and there are at present some twenty acres planted. Some fourteen acres planted in young lime trees are rented to cane farmers at $2.50 per acre.

I estimate, a hundred years and more. The yield is poor. The quality of the cacao reaped from this estate is very good, and when shipped to London fetched ten per cent. to fifteen per cent. above the price paid for Trinidad cacao,

Cedar, mahogany, cyp, and coffee are being largely planted on the hill tops where the cacao does not thrive so well.

The oldest part of the cultivation at La Josefina is not more than twenty to twenty-five years old. In addition to the cacao there are about 4,000 to 5,000 coco-nut trees put in on the lands that are unsuitable to cacao.

cacao.

In all cases the ages of the trees given are approximate, and the acreage under cultivation is as near as I can give without an actual survey.

The Honourable Denis Slyne,

Receiver-General,

Port of Spain.

Yours faithfully,

C. DE VERTEUIL.
