12.. 8.3. Koerber."--The Committee considered a letter from Trinity House claiming that no rebate could be made in respect of the light dues on this ship without an Order in Council. The Secretary was directed to point out to Trinity House that this ship was the property of the Crown, and was, therefore, exempted under the Act of 1898, and that the payment of 75 per cent. proposed by the Committee was an ex gratia payment.
13. s.s. George R."-The Committee considered correspondence which had passed with Messrs. Tyzack and Branfoot regarding the amount of £105 48. 7d. credited to the Committee in respect of the surplus stores ez this ship at the date of her transfer to the Admiralty. The Secretary was instructed to reply to the letter in which the Admiralty suggested a deduction from the Transport Depart- ment's undertaking of £110 178. Od. accepting the principle of the Admiralty's proposal, on condition that only the amount with which the Committee had actually been credited was to be deducted from the undertaking.
14. 5.3. “Macedonia.”—Mr. Holt reported that Messrs. Fisher, Alimonda and Company, who were now in charge of this steamer, estimated that for a voyage of two months, including two weeks in port, she would carry approximately £1,250 worth of coal and provisions. The Committee decided that two-thirds of this might be allowed as stores and bunkers for the purpose of the insurance scheme.

Steamships "Barenfels,"" Gutenfels,” “ Lauterfels," and "Werdenfels."— (a) Mr. Malkin reported that no premium had been collected on the released cargo ex these vessels under the Committee's cover. The Committee decided that Messrs Grahams should be instructed to endeavour to arrange the matter with the brokers on the lines suggested by them, viz., of the Committee paying an estimated amount in respect of each ship and including the amount in the charge to be levied on the cargo owners.

Bethania."-The Committee considered a letter from the Trans- port Department stating that none of the charges in the accounts received from the Governor of Jamaica for the repair and maintenance of this vessel had been paid by the Admiralty. The Committee decided that no further questions need be raised on these accounts, and that the charges made might be accepted.

Mr. Woods attended the meeting during the discussion of items 5, 6, 7, and 8. The minutes of the One Hundred and Seventh Meeting were approved.
'Grahamland.”-Mr. Holt reported that Messrs. Waltons and Com- pany had advised that the balance of the excess freight should be paid to Mesars Jones and Company, and that the Committee should, if necessary, claim against the British Columbia Government for demurrage:

3. S.V. "Neath."-The Committee decided that the Commonwealth Govern- ment might be given an option to send this ship to Brest, St. Nazaire, or Havre, but not Dunkirk.

4. s.v. "Kelp." The Committee considered the application which had been received from Mrs. Murrihy asking to be refunded her expenses, amounting_to £36 9s. 6d., for the maintenance of the captain and chief officer of this ship. The Committee decided that the Shipwrecked Mariners' Benevolent Society should be asked whether they would refund the amount to Mrs. Murrihy.
5. s.v. “Dirigo.”—The Secretary reported that the Foreign Office considered it undesirable that an application should be made at present to requisition this ship. The Committee decided that this case should be brought up again in a month's time.

"Salandha da Gama."-The Secretary was instructed to inform the Procurator-General that this ship was not within the Committee's terms of reference.
7. 5.8. Kong Inge."-The Secretary was instructed to write to the Procurator- General asking whether, having regard to the judgment in the "Zamora" case, any further steps were necessary to secure the requisitioning of this ship.

Edna."-The Committee understood that this ship had been char- tered by Messrs. Grace Brothers, of New York. to carry nitrates to the West Indies, and that the freight on the charter was payable at New York. In these circum- stances the Committee decided to recommend that Messrs. Grace Brothers should be told that the Crown would collect the freight at Barbados and Martinique before the delivery of the cargo, and would pay the amount collected into Court for the account of whom it may concern.

"Kankakee.”—The Committee considered a claim, which had been forwarded by the Accountant-General for the Navy, by Messrs. J. P. Ferrary, of Gibraltar, for water supplied to this ship. The Secretary was instructed to ascer- tain whether the water had been supplied after the vessel had been delivered to them or not. If the water had been supplied before the ship was delivered to the Committee the claim should be returned to the Admiralty, but if after delivery it should be settled.

s.s. "Hocking."-The Committee approved the action taken by Mr. Holt in directing the Admiralty Coasting Trade Office to pay the amount claimed by Captain Foot for wages accrued during his return voyage to Halifax, if they were satisfied that the money claimed was due to him.
11. s.s. "Lome." Mr. Holt reported that this ship was due to arrive at Plymouth on the 24th of April, and would then proceed to London.
12. $.8. "Polkerris." The Committee approved the payment of an account for £45 6s. 4d. which had been received from the Admiralty Coasting Trade Office for their disbursements in connexion with this vessel during the period when she was awaiting sale.

Hamborn."--The Committee considered a despatch which had been received from the Governor-General of Canada relative to certain provisions The Secretary was on board this steamer alleged to have belonged to the master. instructed to ascertain from Messrs. Pickford and Black by whom these provisions had been consumed.

Marina."--The Committee approved the letters which the Secretary had written to the Transport Department in connexion with this vessel.

The Committee decided that 15. 8.S. Emir." (a) Fifteen bags of wax. Messrs. Churchill and Sim's explanation of the increased rates of commission payable on these goods might be accepted.
(b) Thirty bags of coffee. The Committee approved the release to Messrs. W. J. and H. Thompson, on behalf of the claimants, of £94 7s. 10d., in respect of the net proceeds of this coffee, on Messrs. W. J. and H. Thompson signing the form of indemnity which had been prepared.
16. 8.8. Hamm."-The Committee approved the payment to the Federal Steam Navigation Company of a further sum of £1,000 on account of their dis- bursements in respect of the voyage from the Cape to Australia.
