Ocean Island, 20th January, 1915. RAFERRING to Your Excellency's letter No. 327, dated 8th Desember last, or the subject of mosquito-borne diseases and the distribution of mosquitoes in the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, I have the honour to report that Dr. O'Reilly notified me by the last mail from Tarawa that he had found it impossible as yet to deal with these subjects in view of the amount of medical and administrative work which he is called on daily to perform.

2. I will notify Dr. O'Reilly that the reports called for are deemed of impor- tance, and that they are long outstanding, and will endeavour to secure Dr. Wilbe's co-operation in assisting Dr. O'Reilly to prepare the required reports.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge your letter, M.O. 13 of 1914, in the matter of the Secretary of State's circular and mosquito-borne diseases:

1. I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter, M.O. Tarawa No. 3 of 1913, dated 11th December, 1913, dealing with the same subject.

2. Before writing a report of any practical value must classify the mosquitoes in the Protectorate, and, with the amount of work I have in hand at present, I regret to say I shall not be able to do this till about October, by which time I can get the opinion and help of Dr. Wilbe in the Ellice Islands.
