Downing Street, 28th July, 1914. I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 540 of the 19th of June,* on the subject of the contribution of Nigeria to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund.
2. On consideration of the arguments adduced in your despatch I do not desire to press for the increase of the contribution from Nigeria to £500 as origin- ally suggested, but I shall be glad if it is found possible to increase the contribution to £400 in place of £350 as at present.
3. I have noted your views as to the desirability of increasing the contributions from the Gold Coast and Sierra Leone, but the matter is one for my judgment and discretion.
