WITH reference to my letter, No. 17914/14, of the 29th of May,* [and your letter of the 23rd of June,† I am directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to inform you that][I am directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to request you to inform Secretary Sir Edward Grey that] [I am directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to request you to inform the Marquess of Crewe that] the Managing Committee of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology have recommended that, in view of the altered circumstances arising out of the war, the Conference of the official Entomologists of the Empire which it was proposed to hold in London next July should be postponed indefinitely.
2. While he much regrets the necessity for the postponement Mr. Harcourt agrees with the Committee in thinking that this is the only possible course to follow. Accordingly no further action will be taken in connection with the proposed Confer- ence at present.

Wellington, 15th October, 1914. WITH reference to your despatch, No. 226, of the 29th May,‡ intimating that the Imperial Bureau of Entomology has submitted a proposal that the official Entomologists of the Empire should be invited to a conference in London during the latter part of July next year, I have the honour to inform you that in a memo- randum addressed to me by the Prime Minister it is stated that it seems probable that the proposed conference will be either abandoned or postponed owing to the Should it take place, however, New Zealand will probably be represented by an officer of the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce.
